Getting Started

Your first steps into the empire.
What is Imperium?

Imperium is a free, Rome-themed OP prison Minecraft server built around grind-based progression, a true player economy, skill-based PvP, branching faction story, 8 prestige eras, and persistent cosmetics, with a supporter store full of perks that enhance your journey.

How do I join the server?

Launch Minecraft Java Edition, open the Direct Connect or multiplayer menu, and add the Imperium network. Once the realm launches in 2026, the exact address appears on the homepage and in our Discord. Bedrock players join through Geyser, see the Bedrock questions below.

What version of Minecraft do I need?

Imperium runs on Paper 26.2 and accepts every Java client from 1.8 through 26.2. You can connect with virtually any Java release of the last decade; we translate each version automatically so everyone plays together.

Can Bedrock players join?

Yes. Geyser bridges every Bedrock device to the Java server, Windows 10/11, Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, Android, and iOS can all connect using the Bedrock connect address. No Java account required.

What are the basic controls?

Standard Minecraft controls apply. Use /spawn to return to the forum, /mines to warp between mining tiers, /shop and /marketplace to trade, /cosmetics to equip flair, and /help for the full command list. Most actions also have clickable NPCs and menus.

Is it free to play?

Completely. There is no purchase required to access the full game, climb every rank, earn every currency, and reach the top of every leaderboard. The store offers cosmetics and convenience perks that enhance your experience, supporting the server is entirely optional.

Gameplay

Ranks, enchants, prestige, and the climb.
How do ranks work?

There are ten ranks at launch (I–X), with plans to expand to 100 over time. Each rank increases your currency multiplier and gates new content. You climb by paying the Denarius unlock cost, earned entirely in-game, never bought with real money.

What are enchants?

Imperium ships 126 bespoke enchantments themed to Roman lore, from Mars’ Fury to Vulcan’s Forge. Each has real gameplay impact on your pickaxe, armor, and weapons, and every enchant is earned in-game. Mix and match to build your ideal loadout.

How do I prestige?

Once you reach the top rank, you can prestige to restart the climb. There are 8 prestige eras, each a new historical period of Rome, from the Early Republic (Prestige 1) to the Byzantine Ascendancy (Prestige 8). Your cosmetics and era badges carry forward forever.

Any mining tips for a new citizen?

Focus on clearing full sections of each mine for bonus payouts, keep your pickaxe enchanted and upgraded, and sell ore through the player marketplace for better prices than the NPC vendor. Higher ranks pay more per block, so reinvest early earnings into the next rank unlock.

How does PvP work?

PvP is skill-based and balanced. Enter the arena for 1v1 duels or free-for-all brawls; kill/death ratios are tracked across seasons and tournaments. Your reflexes and build decide every fight, the arena rewards skill above all else.

What is the branching story?

Choose between four rival factions. Your decisions lock and unlock content, rewrite the fate of Rome across 50 story chapters, and grant unique faction cosmetics. The story reacts to the collective choices of the player base.

Are there quests?

Yes, daily, weekly, and story quests reward all four currencies. Quests guide new players through the ranks and give veterans steady goals between prestige runs.

Economy

Four currencies, one living empire.
What currencies exist?

Four: Denarius (daily trade), Auctoritas (influence, spent on cosmetics and unlocks), Civitas (civic contribution, funding your legion and weekly payouts), and Aureus (prestige gold, used for crate keys and rare items). Each is earned through a different kind of effort.

How do I earn currency?

Mine blocks for Denarius, win PvP and complete achievements for Auctoritas, contribute to your legion for Civitas, and hit milestones for Aureus. Coins flow from gameplay, and supporter tiers also grant monthly Aureus as a perk.

Is there a bank system?

Yes. The imperial bank lets you store Denarius securely, earn interest over time, and protect your wealth from PvP looting. Vault slots expand with rank, and convenience-tier store perks can add extra slots to your vault.

How does the trade exchange work?

The marketplace is entirely player-run. You list items for sale at any price you choose, browse other citizens’ listings, haggle, and build a merchant empire. Prices reflect real supply and demand, the store never sets or overrides them.

Can I trade between currencies?

Some currencies convert through specific actions (for example, Civitas funds legion payouts that members receive), but there is no direct pay-to-convert button. Each currency keeps its distinct role so the economy stays balanced.

Social

Legions, marriage, friends, and mentorship.
How do I join a legion?

Legions are player-run guilds. Use /legions to browse open legions, read their charters, and apply, or found your own once you meet the requirement. Legion membership unlocks Civitas payouts, group events, and shared goals.

Can players marry?

Yes. The marriage system lets two citizens formally bond, share a private chat channel, teleport to one another, and earn joint bonuses. It is purely a social feature with no gameplay power attached.

Is there a friends list?

Yes, /friend add lets you build a friends list, see who is online, and warp to friends across the server. Friends also appear in your dashboard social panel once you have linked your account.

Is there a mentorship system?

Veterans can take on newer citizens as mentees, guiding them through the early ranks. Mentors earn Civitas for helping mentees reach milestones, giving high-rank players a reason to teach and welcome newcomers.

How do I link my Discord and Minecraft?

Once your web account is created, use the Link Discord and Link Minecraft pages in your dashboard to connect both identities. Linking unlocks cross-platform chat, role sync, and account recovery.

Technical

Versions, devices, and chat translation.
Which Java versions are supported?

Every Java release from 1.8 through 26.2. We run Paper 26.2 on the backend and translate every client version so players on old and new clients share one world.

Which Bedrock devices can connect?

All of them, Windows 10/11, Xbox One and Series X|S, PlayStation 4 and 5, Nintendo Switch, and Android and iOS phones and tablets. Geyser bridges each device to the Java server with no extra software on console and mobile.

Does the chat auto-translate?

Yes. Chat auto-translates between 45 supported languages in real time, so citizens from anywhere in the world can talk together. You can pin your preferred language in your account settings.

Do I need any mods or resource packs?

No. Imperium is fully vanilla-client compatible. Optional resource packs add cosmetic flair, but everything works on a clean install of any supported Minecraft version.

What is the server backend built on?

The plugin is written in Kotlin on Paper 26.2, backed by PostgreSQL for persistence, Redis for caching and leaderboards, and Geyser for Bedrock crossplay. The website is a Next.js app talking to the same data layer.

Cosmetics, convenience, and supporter perks.

All purchases are final and non-refundable, including chargebacks, filing a chargeback will result in account termination. If a purchase was made fraudulently or in error, contact support through the dashboard ticket system within 48 hours. See the Refund Policy page for full details.

Is everything EULA compliant?

Yes. Imperium complies with the Minecraft EULA and Mojang’s Commercial Usage Guidelines. The store offers cosmetics and convenience perks, supporter tiers that grant sell bonuses, boosters, auto-sell, and monthly Aureus. We are not affiliated with Mojang AB or Microsoft.

What exactly does the store sell?

Imperial cosmetics (crowns, cloaks, laurels, auras), particle packs, pickaxe skins, cell themes, gadget tools, and convenience perks like extra vault slots and /hat access. Supporter tiers also bundle sell bonuses, boosters, auto-sell, and monthly Aureus to enhance your progression.

Do cosmetics carry over after prestige?

Yes. Every cosmetic you earn or unlock is permanent and carries across all 8 eras forever. Your collection is a running trophy case of every climb you have completed.
