King of the Hill

Capture and hold a central zone against the whole server for escalating Denarius and Aureus rewards.

King of the Hill (KOTH) is Imperium's premier open-world PvP event: a circular zone opens at a fixed location, and every player on the server is invited to stand inside it and fight for control. The longer you hold the zone uncontested, the more your capture progress fills. Reach 100% and you walk away with a chunk of Denarius (and often Aureus for the bigger events). It is a high-intensity, broadcast-heavy, target-on-your-back game mode that rewards coordinated legions and skilled solo PvPers alike.

How KOTH Triggers

KOTH is an admin-triggered event rather than a continuous game mode. A staff member runs /koth start at the configured zone (previously pinned with /koth setzone <radius>), the server is broadcast that KOTH has begun, and the capture timer starts ticking. There is no fixed schedule — events fire when staff see enough players online to make a fight of it, often on weekends or during festivals.

Because KOTH is admin-run, the zone, reward, and required capture time are all tuned per event. A small weekday KOTH might pay 50,000 Denarius for a 90-second hold, while a weekend event can pay Aureus and demand a full three-minute uncontested cap.

The Capture Mechanic

Once the event is live, a glowing capture zone appears at the set location. Standing inside the zone fills your personal capture progress, displayed on a BossBar at the top of the screen. The rules are deliberately brutal:

  • Only one player caps at a time. If two or more players from different legions are inside the zone, progress pauses — it is "contested" and freezes until one side clears the other out.
  • You must be present. Leaving the zone (or dying) instantly stops your progress. Step back in and the bar resumes from where it left off, but the clock keeps running on the event.
  • Legion members don't contest each other. Two members of the same legion can both stand in the zone and share the cap; only rival legions create a contest.
  • 100% wins. The first player to fill the bar to 100% wins the event, the rewards pay out, and the zone closes.

This creates the classic KOTH dynamic: a stack of legionaries clears the zone, their designated capper stands on the point while the rest form a perimeter, and rival legions charge in to break the cap before the bar fills.

Rewards

The winner is paid instantly on capture completion. The exact payout is set per event by staff, but a typical KOTH delivers:

RewardDetail
DenariusA flat cash prize, often 50k–500k depending on event size.
AuctoritasTokens, scaled to the event tier.
AureusPremium currency on the largest weekend KOTHs and festival events.
Broadcast gloryA server-wide announcement naming the winner and their legion.

Commands

CommandWhat it does
/koth infoView the active KOTH zone, radius, time remaining, and current holder.
/koth startStaff: begin a KOTH event at the configured zone.
/koth stopStaff: end the current KOTH event immediately.
/koth setzone <radius>Staff: set the KOTH capture zone to your location with the given radius.
/koth setreward <amount>Staff: set the Denarius or Aureus reward paid to the winner.
/koth settime <seconds>Staff: set the capture-time required to win.

Players only need /koth info — everything else is admin-only. The info command shows the zone location, the current leader (if any), the capture progress, and the time remaining in the event.

Tips

  1. Bring your legion. Solo capping against even two coordinated defenders is nearly impossible — KOTH is fundamentally a team mode.
  2. Designate one capper. Pick the most survivable player (high trophies, good armor, escape abilities) to stand on the point while everyone else defends.
  3. Clear before capping. Don't waste progress on a contested zone — wipe the rivals first, then cap uncontested.
  4. Watch the BossBar. The capture progress bar tells you exactly how close the current leader is to winning; time your assault accordingly.
  5. Use abilities and the PVP kit. Combat Abilities and the admin-granted netherite PVP kit shine in KOTH's tight, chaotic zone.
  6. Stay online after winning. A KOTH win paints a target on you — expect bounty placements and revenge hunts for the next hour.
