Enchant Books

Apply, fuse, and extract pickaxe enchants via right-click — portable, tradeable, and the backbone of the enchant economy.

Enchant books are the portable, tradeable form of a pickaxe enchant. Each book holds one enchant at a specific level, encoded into the item itself — and you can apply a book to your pickaxe, fuse two books together to raise a level, or extract an enchant off your pickaxe back into a book. They are the backbone of the enchant economy: books drop from crates, can be sold on the Auction House, and let you re-spec your pickaxe without starting over.

The Three Operations

OperationWhat it doesCostRisk
ApplyTransfer an enchant from a book onto your pickaxe.FreeNone — always succeeds (consumes 1 book)
FuseCombine two same-level books into one book at +1 level.Denarius (scales with target level)Failure destroys both books
ExtractPull an enchant off your pickaxe into a book.Civitas beacons (scales with level)Failure destroys the enchant

All three are triggered by right-click, not menus. The book's own lore tells you exactly what to do — no commands required. The /enchantbook command family exists too, but the right-click shortcuts are the intended flow.

Applying a Book to Your Pickaxe

Applying is the safe, free way to add an enchant to your pickaxe. Hold the enchant book in one hand and your prison pickaxe in the other, then right-click. The enchant transfers at the book's level, and one book is consumed.

Rules

  • The target must be a prison pickaxe — vanilla pickaxes will not work.
  • If your pickaxe already has the enchant at a higher level, the apply is rejected (no overwrite-down).
  • The book's level cannot exceed the enchant's maxLevel.
  • Apply always succeeds — there is no chance of failure or book loss beyond the one consumed.

This makes books the ideal way to load a freshly claimed pickaxe: apply a stack of books in sequence and your pickaxe is instantly competitive.

Fusing Books — Raising a Level

Fusing is how you push an enchant past the level you found it at. Hold two enchanted books of the same enchant at the same level (one in each hand), then right-click air. If you have the Denarius, the two books are consumed and replaced with a single book of the same enchant at +1 level.

Requirements

  • Both items must be enchant books (not vanilla enchanted books).
  • Both books must hold the same enchant ID.
  • Both books must be the same level.
  • The target enchant must not already be at its max level.
  • You must have enough Denarius to pay the fuse cost.

Cost and Success Rate

The fuse cost in Denarius is 5,000 × 2(targetLevel-1) — it doubles every level. The success rate is 100% for target levels 1–5, then drops by 5% per level above 5, floored at 25%. On failure, both source books are destroyed.

Target levelDenarius costSuccess rate
Level 1$5,000100%
Level 2$10,000100%
Level 3$20,000100%
Level 4$40,000100%
Level 5$80,000100%
Level 6$160,00095%
Level 8$640,00085%
Level 10$2,560,00075%
Level 12$~10.2M65%
Level 15$~81.9M50%
Level 20$~2.6B25%

Because levels 1–5 are guaranteed, the smart play is to fuse cheap low-level books up to level 5 for free (only paying Denarius), then decide whether the diminishing success odds are worth the risk for levels 6+. Many players stop at 5 and trade for higher-level books instead.

Extracting an Enchant — Pickaxe to Book

Extraction is the reverse of applying: it pulls an enchant off your pickaxe and into a book, letting you re-spec without losing the enchant. This is the only way to recover an enchant you no longer want, or to move a high-level enchant to a different pickaxe build.

Cost and Success Rate

Extraction costs Civitas beacons, not Denarius. The formula is 10 × level² Civitas — quadratic, so a level-10 enchant costs 1,000 beacons to extract. The success rate is 100% for levels 1–3, then drops by 10% per level above 3, floored at 20%. On failure, the enchant is destroyed (not returned to the pickaxe and not put in a book).

Enchant levelCivitas costSuccess rate
Level 110 ⎈100%
Level 240 ⎈100%
Level 390 ⎈100%
Level 4160 ⎈90%
Level 5250 ⎈80%
Level 7490 ⎈60%
Level 101,000 ⎈30%
Level 121,440 ⎈20% (floor)

Extraction is the riskiest of the three operations. Because Civitas is the hardest currency to grind and high-level extraction can fail, only extract enchants you are certain you want to move — and consider whether re-rolling a new pickaxe is cheaper.

Where to Get Enchant Books

Books enter the economy through several channels:

  • Crates — mid-to-high tier crates drop books as rewards, often at useful levels.
  • Voting and rewards — vote parties and milestone rewards can include books.
  • The Auction House — buy books from other players with Denarius.
  • Player trading — face-to-face secure trades.
  • Extraction — pull a book off a pickaxe you are re-speccing.

A book's lore shows the enchant's full description, category, rarity, current level, and max level, plus the apply/fuse instructions — so you always know what a book does before you use or trade it.

Reading a Book

An enchant book's lore is information-densive. Here is what each line means:

Lore lineMeaning
<color>Enchant Name <gray>Level X / <gold>YThe enchant name, current level X, and max level Y.
Word-wrapped descriptionThe enchant's plain-English effect description.
Category: <color>NameThe enchant's category (e.g. Economy, Mining, Active).
Rarity: <color>RARITYThe enchant's rarity tier, color-coded.
Hold book + pickaxe, right-click to applyThe apply shortcut.
Hold 2 same-level books, right-click to fuse +1The fuse shortcut.

Strategy

  1. Fuse to level 5 for free. Levels 1–5 are guaranteed success, so push cheap books there before risking anything higher.
  2. Buy, do not fuse, for high levels. A level-10 book on the Auction House is often cheaper than the expected Denarius cost of fusing (and the failure risk).
  3. Do not extract casually. Civitas is precious; only extract when you are committed to a pickaxe re-spec, and prefer extracting level-1–3 enchants where it is safe.
  4. Stockpile books from crates. Even enchants you do not want now are fuse fuel or trade goods later.
  5. Check the book's category color. Books are color-coded by category — a quick way to spot the Economy and Mining books that drive income versus the Active books you may not use.
