Mail

Send offline messages to other players — they see your mail the moment they next log in.

Mail is Imperium's player-to-player offline messaging system. Send a message to a friend, a trading partner, or a legion mate and they will see it the moment they next log in — even if you are offline when they read it. Mail is the in-game replacement for Essentials /mail, built native into the Imperium plugin.

Sending Mail

To send mail, the recipient must be online at the moment you send it (so the server can resolve their account) and must have joined the server at least once before. You cannot mail yourself.

  1. Type /mail send <player> <message>.
  2. The message is plain-text — any color codes or formatting tags are stripped automatically.
  3. If the player is online and valid, the mail is stored and a confirmation is sent to you.
  4. The recipient sees the mail surfaced as unread the next time they join (and any time until they read it).

Examples:

  • /mail send Brutus Meet me at the Forum in 10 minutes
  • /mail send Apicius I have 64 diamond ore for sale — name your price
  • /mail send Cassia Welcome to the legion! Check /legions for our perks

Reading Mail

Type /mail or /mail read to open your inbox at page 1. Each message shows the sender's name and the message body. Reading a page marks every message on that page as delivered, so it stops appearing as unread on join.

If you have more mail than fits on one page, use /mail read 2, /mail read 3, and so on to page through. To clear your whole inbox at once, run /mail clear — every message is marked delivered immediately.

Unread mail surfaces automatically when you log in, so you never miss a message from a friend who played while you were offline. Once you read it, it is delivered and will not nag you again — though it stays in your inbox until you clear it.

Rules & Limits

RuleDetail
Recipient must have joinedYou can only send mail to a player the server has seen before. The recipient must be online when you send it.
No self-mailYou cannot send mail to yourself.
Plain text onlyAll color codes and MiniMessage tags are stripped before storage — mail is always plain text, never formatted.
250-character limitMessages are capped at 250 characters. Longer messages are truncated.
PaginatedYour inbox is paginated. Reading a page marks just that page's messages as delivered, so they stop surfacing on join.

Commands

CommandWhat it does
/mailRead your inbox (page 1). Shows every message you have not yet read.
/mail read [page]Read a specific page of your inbox. Reading a page marks those messages as delivered.
/mail send <player> <message>Send an offline mail to a player. They will see it next time they log in.
/mail clearMark your entire inbox as read in one click.
/mail helpShow the mail command reference.

When to Use Mail

  • Coordinating trades — leave a price offer for a player in another timezone.
  • Legion communication — message a recruit or a fellow officer offline.
  • Friendly messages — say hi to a friend who plays different hours.
  • Bounty negotiations — let a target know a price is on their head (or that you lifted one).
  • Auction follow-up — tell a buyer where to meet for a hand-off.

Mail is for short, persistent messages. For live conversation, use global chat or Discord — mail is the slow letter, not the messenger.

Tips

  1. Check mail on every login. Unread mail auto-surfaces — do not ignore the prompt.
  2. Read in pages. Only the page you actually read is marked delivered, so you can revisit earlier pages if needed.
  3. Use /mail clear to reset. If your inbox is cluttered with old messages, one command clears them.
  4. Keep messages short. The 250-character cap means a sentence or two — get to the point.
  5. No formatting passes through. Do not bother with color codes — they are stripped before storage.
  6. Recipient must be online to send. If they are offline, ask them in chat to log in, then mail.
  7. Pair with /pay for gifting. Mail someone a message, then /pay them Denarius — a complete offline transaction.
