Killstreaks
Chain PvP kills without dying for escalating milestone broadcasts and bonuses — die and reset to zero.
A killstreak is your run of consecutive PvP kills without dying. Every kill in the PVP Mine or Colosseum adds one to your streak; a single death resets it to zero. The longer your streak, the more attention you draw — Imperium broadcasts milestone streaks to the whole server and pays out escalating bonuses. It is the purest measure of PvP momentum, and a long streak is both a trophy and a target on your back.
How Streaks Build & Break
The streak counter is brutally simple. Every time you land a killing blow on another player in a PvP context, your streak goes up by one. The moment you die — to a player, a mob, a fall, anything — your streak resets to zero. There is no "grace death" and no decay over time; the only way to keep a streak alive is to not die.
The reset is authoritative on the victim's side: when you are killed, your streak is wiped immediately, even if a separate death handler also fires. The system is deliberately defensive so a streak is never left stale by a wiring quirk.
Streaks are tracked in memory per player and cleared on logout. This means a streak does not survive a disconnect — log out and your streak is gone, even if you log right back in. Stay online and keep winning to keep it climbing.
Every Kill Pays
Beyond the streak counter, every PvP kill is a payday. The base rewards stack so that high-value targets (players with many trophies or bounties) are worth significantly more than fresh rookies.
| Reward | How it scales |
|---|---|
| Base kill money | A flat Denarius reward per kill (default $500, configurable in pvp.yml). |
| Per-trophy bonus | Extra Denarius per kill scaled by the victim's trophy count (default +$5 per trophy). |
| Kill tokens | A flat Auctoritas reward per kill (configurable). |
| Bounty payout | If the victim had a bounty on them, the full pot pays out to the killer. |
| Trophy +1 | The killer gains a trophy; the victim loses trophies on death (default 10). |
This creates a positive feedback loop: the best PvPers accumulate trophies, which makes them worth more to kill, which draws bounty hunters, which makes the PVP Mine a high-stakes arena for everyone involved.
Milestone Broadcasts & Bonuses
The real drama of killstreaks is the milestone system. Imperium watches your streak, and when it crosses certain thresholds, the whole server finds out. Each milestone is defined in pvp.yml with a kill count, a reward currency, an amount, and a custom message. When you hit one:
- The reward (Denarius or Auctoritas) is credited to you instantly.
- A personalized message is sent to you confirming the milestone and payout.
- The server is broadcast: "⚔ <you> is on a <N> killstreak! +<amount> <currency>"
Milestones are typically set at intervals like 10 kills, 25 kills, 50 kills, and 100 kills, with escalating rewards (for example, 10 kills might pay 500 tokens while 50 kills pays 2,000). The exact thresholds and amounts are configured by staff in the PvP config, so check the latest values in-game.
Because the broadcast names you and your streak, a high milestone paints a target on you. Expect bounty placements and coordinated hunts once the server sees you on a long run — surviving a 50- or 100-kill streak is a genuine feat.
Checking Streaks
Three commands cover everything you need to track streaks. Check your own, spy on a rival, or pull up the live leaderboard of who is currently on a tear.
| Command | What it does |
|---|---|
/killstreak | Show your own current consecutive PvP kill streak. |
/killstreak <player> | Show another online player's current killstreak. |
/killstreak top | List the top 10 active killstreaks among online players right now. |
The /killstreak top leaderboard is live — it ranks only currently online players by their active streak, so it shifts minute to minute. A player who logs off drops off the board entirely, since their streak resets on disconnect.
Trophies & the Streak Economy
Streaks and trophies feed each other. Trophies are a permanent PvP record (stored in the database, gained on kills, lost on death), and they directly scale your kill rewards — the more trophies a victim has, the more money you earn for killing them. A player on a long killstreak has almost certainly been racking up trophies too, which makes them the single most lucrative target on the server.
Conversely, dying costs you trophies (a flat loss per death, default 10), which lowers your own value as a target and your own kill-reward scaling until you rebuild. The system rewards consistent aggression and punishes careless deaths.
Tips
- Stay alive above all. A 30-kill streak is worth far more than two 15-kill streaks, because milestones escalate. Play defensively once you are on a run.
- Hunt trophy-rich targets. Killing a player with many trophies pays dramatically more than killing a rookie — check who has bounties, as they are usually the high-trophy players.
- Don't log out on a streak. Disconnecting resets your streak to zero. If you want to keep a run going, stay online.
- Watch /killstreak top. Knowing who is on a hot streak tells you who is worth hunting — and warns you who might be hunting you.
- Stack with a bounty. Place a bounty on a streaking player, then kill them: you collect the bounty pot, the kill reward, the per-trophy bonus, and you end their streak all at once.
- Use the PVP Mine for safe streaks. The PVP Mine is where PvP happens; wandering PvP-enabled zones elsewhere risks deaths to mobs or the environment that reset your streak for nothing.
- Beware the combat-tag. Once tagged, logging out kills you instantly — a combat-log death resets your streak and loots your body. Always wait out the tag.
