Crates

Open mystery chests for money, tokens, free ranks, and exclusive cosmetics.

Crates are mystery boxes full of rewards. You open one with a key, and you get a random prize — money, tokens, cosmetics, or even rare items like free rank-ups and prestige tokens.

What Are Crates?

A crate is a loot box. Each crate has a list of possible rewards. When you open it, the crate spins (a fun animation) and lands on one reward. Some rewards are common (small money), some are extremely rare (huge jackpots, free prestige, exclusive cosmetics).

You need a key that matches the crate type to open it.

How to Get Keys

MethodHow
VotingEvery vote gives you a Vote Crate Key. Vote daily!
Vote PartyWhen the server hits its vote-party goal, everyone online gets keys.
StoreBuy keys at store.imperiummc.net with real money.
CratesSometimes opening one crate gives you keys to another.
MilestonesMonthly vote milestones reward keys.
EventsStaff sometimes hand out keys during events.

Type /crate keys any time to see how many keys you have for each crate.

How to Open a Crate

  1. Type /crate to open the crate menu.
  2. Click Browse to see all available crates.
  3. Click a crate you have a key for.
  4. The crate opens with an animation and shows your reward.

You can also open by command: /crate open <type> (for example, /crate open vote).

The opening animation

Each open plays a short spin animation — the reward tiles scroll and slow down before landing on your prize. Higher-tier crates have flashier animations and longer suspense. You can skip the animation for bulk opens (see below).

The animation is purely cosmetic. The reward is rolled the instant you open, so skipping or watching does not change your odds.

Crate Types and Tiers

Crates come in seven tiers, from cheapest to most valuable. Higher tiers have better rewards.

Roman-Themed Crates

Alongside the seven progression tiers, Imperium runs a second family of Roman-themed crates themed around the military and political ranks. These are often earned through events, dungeons, and the store:

TierCrate name
RecruitRecruit's Bounty
LegionaryLegionary's Spoils
CenturionCenturion's Armory
PraetorianPraetorian Vault
ConsulConsul's Treasury
TriumphTriumphus Maximus

Special and Event Crates

A third family of special crates appears during events, festivals, and as niche rewards. They use unique reward tables:

CrateTheme
SaturnaliaFestival gift crate — seasonal, available during the Saturnalia event.
BacchanalMystery crate — chaotic, high-variance rewards.
GladiatorArena rewards — combat-themed loot and gear.
MerchantCaravan deals — economy-focused bundles.
OracleProphecy crate — unpredictable but often valuable.
VestalFlame rewards — cosmetic and enchantment themed.
AugurDivination crate — rare enchant books and tokens.

Special crates are often limited-time — grab them while an event is live, because they may not return for a year.

The Pity System (Guaranteed Good Rewards)

Crates are random, but Imperium has a pity system so you never get unlucky forever.

How pity works

  • Every time you open a crate and do not get a rare reward, your pity counter goes up.
  • After 50 opens without a rare reward, the next open is guaranteed to be rare.
  • “Rare” means any reward in the bottom 20% of drop weights — the good stuff.
  • Pity is tracked per crate type, so your Vote Crate pity is separate from your Legendary Crate pity.
  • A Crate Luck Booster accelerates pity progress, making guaranteed rares come faster.

So if you open a crate 50 times and keep getting small money, the 51st open will give you something good. You are never fully unlucky.

Type /crate luck or /crate stats to see your current pity progress per crate type.

Why bulk opening matters: saving keys for a bulk open lets you push through to the 50-open pity threshold in one session. The guaranteed rare is a much better deal than dripping keys one at a time over weeks.

Bulk Opening

Do not want to watch the animation 20 times? You can open multiple crates at once.

  • In the crate menu, choose how many keys to use at once.
  • The rewards stack up and show in a summary at the end.
  • Pity still counts each individual open toward your guaranteed-rare threshold.

Bulk opening is perfect when you have saved up a big pile of vote keys.

Rerolling (Try Again for a Better Prize)

Some high-tier crates (Epic and above) let you reroll your reward if you do not like it.

  • After opening, you have 15 seconds to reroll.
  • Rerolling costs either another key or a flat Denarius fee (depends on the crate).
  • You can reroll up to a set number of times (usually 2–3).

This is a gamble — the new roll could be better or worse. Use it when you land on a tiny reward from an expensive crate. Type /crate reroll within the time window to reroll your last open.

LootBoxes (Physical Crates)

Some crates come as physical items in your inventory (a chest or ender chest). These are called LootBoxes.

  • Right-click a LootBox in your hand to open it.
  • LootBoxes can be traded, sold, or stored.
  • Higher-tier LootBoxes appear as Ender Chests; lower tiers as regular chests.

LootBoxes use the same reward tables as their virtual crate counterparts.
