Getting Started

Getting Started

New player walkthrough — your first five minutes, first pickaxe, first Denarius, and first rank-up.

Welcome to Imperium - a Roman-themed Minecraft prison server where you mine blocks, earn Denarius, climb a 100-rank ladder, prestige for permanent multipliers, and build toward becoming a god. This guide walks you through your first session: the first five minutes, your first pickaxe, your first Denarius, your first rank-up, and where to go from there.

If you only memorize one command, make it /next. It looks at your money, rank, and prestige and tells you the single best thing to do right now. Type it any time you feel stuck.

The First Five Minutes

When you spawn into Imperium you land in Rome, the central hub. Don't wander - follow these five steps in order and you'll be mining and earning within sixty seconds.

StepCommandWhat to Do
1/menuOpen the central menu the moment you spawn. Every system is one click from here.
2/kitClaim your free Starter kit - it includes your first pickaxe and the basics.
3/pickaxeOpen the pickaxe panel. If your pickaxe is missing, the Reclaim button gives it back free.
4/minesOpen the mine picker and teleport to Mine I. This is where you start earning.
5/nextType /next any time you feel lost. It looks at your progress and tells you the single best thing to do.

That's it. After step 4 you are inside Mine I with a pickaxe in your hand. Start breaking blocks - every block you mine goes into your Sarcina (backpack) and is worth Denarius when sold.

Your First Pickaxe

Every player gets a soulbound prison pickaxe - a personal pickaxe that levels up with you and can never be permanently lost. If you ever lose it (drop it, die with it, accidentally clear your inventory), open /pickaxe and click the Reclaim button. It comes right back, levels and enchants intact.

The pickaxe panel (/pickaxe) shows everything about your tool:

  • Level & XP - the pickaxe levels up as you mine, unlocking new enchant slots.
  • Enchant slots - how many enchants you can have active at once. Higher pickaxe level = more slots.
  • Mining stats - efficiency, fortune, token find rate, and other rolled stats.
  • Durability - the pickaxe is soulbound so it never breaks permanently, but you can repair it here.
  • Active abilities - Super Breaker, Mass Detonate, Token Storm. Big cooldowns, huge payouts.

Right-clicking your pickaxe in-game opens the enchant menu directly - no command needed. See the Pickaxe Guide for the full panel breakdown.

Mining Your First Blocks

Mining is the heart of Imperium. You break blocks, the blocks fill your Sarcina (mining backpack, opened with /backpack), and the Sarcina auto-sells when you type /sellall. Every block has a Denarius value - early mines pay pennies per block, but the numbers compound fast as you rank up.

The basic loop, repeated forever:

  1. Mine blocks until your Sarcina is full (/backpack to check).
  2. Type /sellall to convert everything to Denarius.
  3. Check /rank - if you can afford the next rank, type /rankup.
  4. Repeat. The mines refill on a timer, so you never run out.

You can also toggle auto-sell by typing /sellall while sneaking (or via the menu) - mined blocks then convert to Denarius instantly without the command. Donor tiers unlock partial or full auto-sell permanently.

Once you have an hour of playtime, the PVP Mine unlocks - the richest mine in the game. The catch? PvP is permanently on. See PvP Mine for the rules and rewards.

Your First Enchants

Enchants are how a $0.50 block becomes a $50 block. Open the enchant menu by right-clicking your pickaxe (or /enchant) and spend Auctoritas tokens - the second currency, earned passively while mining. Prices below are the real level-1 costs from the live catalog; the first ones unlock at Rank 2, so rank up twice before your first shopping trip:

EnchantLevel-1 CostUnlocksWhy Buy It Early
Fortuna's Favor500 AuctoritasR2+0.5% proc chance to EVERY other enchant per level - makes everything else fire more. The cheapest force-multiplier.
Opulentia's Blessing1,000 AuctoritasR2Rare proc pays 10× block value as a wealth bonus. Cheap lottery ticket.
Midas' Tollunt2,000 AuctoritasR3Golden-touch proc - bonus Denarius on triggered blocks.
Denarius Boost5,000 AuctoritasR4Passive +5% block value per level (max 50 = +250%). The core income enchant - level it forever.
Auctoritas Boost10,000 AuctoritasR5Passive +0.05 Auctoritas per level per break. Snowballs your enchant budget.

Don't hunt for "Efficiency" yet. Mining-speed enchants exist but are late-game: Vulcan's Precision (the Efficiency-style enchant, 10,000 Auctoritas) is double-gated behind Rank 26 AND Prestige 7, and Mercury's Swiftness (permanent Haste) costs 15,000 at Rank 2. Early Auctoritas is better spent on the income enchants above - income buys speed later.

There are 170+ pickaxe enchants across 18 categories - see the Enchants article for the full catalogue. The short version: stack Fortuna's Favor + Denarius Boost early, then branch into bigger Denarius and Auctoritas engines as your rank unlocks them.

Ranking Up - The Cursus Honorum

Your goal in Imperium is to climb the cursus honorum - the Roman course of offices - from Proletarius (Rank 1) all the way to Divus Maximus (Rank 100) and beyond into prestige. Each rank-up costs Denarius and grants a higher sell multiplier plus a new Roman title.

Ranking up is dead simple:

  1. Type /rank to see your current rank, next rank, and the Denarius cost.
  2. When you can afford it, type /rankup. Done.
  3. Donors with the perk can type /maxrankup (alias /mr) to skip as many ranks as you can afford in one click.

Cost formula (live): each rank-up costs 16000 × (rank+1)² × (1 + prestige × 0.5) Denarius - your first one (Rank 1 → 2) is $64,000. Ranks 1→10 total about $6.1M. The full ladder math lives in the Rank Roadmap.

Every rank also unlocks a richer mine - Mine N unlocks at Rank N - with public-mine content currently live through Mine XXV (The Alpine Fief, Rank 25). Past Rank 25 everyone mines XXV (the best available mine) until the next content patch, while ranks keep paying out sell multipliers, titles, and high-gate enchants all the way to 100.

At Rank 100 you can prestige - reset back to Rank 1 in exchange for permanent multipliers (+5% money, +4% tokens, +3% mining per level), a prestige title, and milestone rewards. The prestige ladder runs to Summus Deus at Prestige 25, with the first 8 tiers active today - so the long game is a 100-rank climb you repeat with ever-stronger bonuses. See Ranks & Prestige for the full ladder and Prestige for the prestige system.

The Four Currencies

Imperium has four currencies, each earned differently and spent differently:

  • Denarius ($) - money. Earned by mining and selling. Spent on rank-ups, the shop, and trades. The main currency.
  • Auctoritas (⛁) - tokens. Earned passively while mining. Spent on enchants, abilities, and the enchant-point shop.
  • Civitas (⌖) - beacons. Earned through legions, festivals, and events. Spent on legion upgrades and the legion vault.
  • Aureus (🪙) - premium. Earned through voting, vote-top, and events (or bought). Spent on rank skips (/rankskip), the premium shop, and donor tiers.

Type /balance (alias /bal) any time to see all four. See Economy for the full breakdown of how each currency flows.

Where to Go From Here

Once you're comfortably mining, ranking up, and have a few enchants, you have the core loop down. Here are the systems worth exploring next, roughly in order of value:

GoalHow to Reach ItWhat You Get
Hit Rank V/rankup whenever you can afford itUnlocks the next mine tier with better ores.
Earn 1 hour playtimeJust keep miningUnlocks the PVP Mine - the richest ore in the game.
First PrestigeReach Rank 100, then /prestigePermanent multipliers (+5% money / +4% tokens / +3% mining per level), reset back to Rank 1.
Vote daily/vote and click every siteFree crate keys, Denarius, and Vote Shards.
Join a Legion/legion and apply or accept an invitePassive Civitas boost + shared vault + weekly Aureus.
Daily Reward streak/daily every dayEscalating rewards; missing a day breaks the streak.

Crates, Voting & Free Stuff

The fastest free progress in Imperium comes from voting and crates. Every day, type /vote and click through the vote sites - each vote pays Denarius, Auctoritas, crate keys, and Vote Shards. Stack up vote keys and open them at the crate pavilion at spawn with /crate open vote. Monthly vote-top players earn Aureus, the premium currency, for free.

Crates come in seven tiers from Common to Godly, with a 50-open pity system that guarantees a rare reward if you go dry. See Voting and Crates for the full reward tables and odds.

Ten Tips for New Citizens

  • Type /next constantly. It's the smartest guide on the server - it knows your money, rank, and prestige and tells you exactly what to do.
  • Reclaim a lost pickaxe for free. Drop it, die with it, clear your inventory - /pickaxe → Reclaim brings it back instantly.
  • Buy Fortuna's Favor first ($500), then Denarius Boost ($5,000). Fortuna makes every other enchant fire more; Denarius Boost is the core income engine you'll level for the rest of the season.
  • Toggle auto-sell early. Sneak + /sellall turns it on; never type /sellall again. Donor tiers unlock permanent partial or full auto-sell.
  • Vote every day. It's free Denarius, tokens, keys, and Aureus. The single best free progression in the game.
  • Join a Legion. Passive Civitas income, a shared vault, and weekly Aureus payouts - all for free.
  • Don't sit on Denarius. Rank up the moment you can afford it. Idle money earns nothing.
  • Claim your daily reward. /daily every day, plus /weekly and /monthly. Streaks escalate the payout.
  • Set homes everywhere. /sethome mine, /sethome spawn, /sethome cell - fast travel saves hours.
  • Read the chat tips. Imperium broadcasts rotating tips; /tips lets you browse them all and the wiki lives at /wiki.

That's the foundation. The rest of the wiki covers every system in depth - pick a topic from the sidebar, or type /next in-game and let Imperium guide you. Welcome to the empire.
