Mentor

Veterans adopt rookies for a mutual mining income bonus and a lump-sum graduation reward at $1M earned.

The Mentor system pairs veteran citizens with fresh rookies for mutual profit. A mentor takes on a new player, and while the rookie grinds, both of them earn a bonus on top of their mining income. When the rookie has earned enough to "graduate," both mentor and mentee receive a lump-sum graduation reward and the whole server is notified. It is the single best way for a new player to accelerate their start — and a steady passive income stream for veterans who like helping.

How a Mentorship Begins

A mentorship can start in one of two ways: a veteran directly offers to adopt a rookie, or a rookie broadcasts that they are looking for a mentor.

Veteran-initiated: /mentor adopt

  1. A veteran with enough playtime runs /mentor adopt <player> on an eligible rookie.
  2. If all the eligibility gates pass, the rookie gets a message: "<veteran> offered to mentor you! /mentor accept — you'll both earn bonuses while you grind."
  3. The rookie runs /mentor accept and the mentorship is sealed.

Rookie-initiated: /mentor request

If you are a rookie with no mentor, run /mentor request. Imperium broadcasts a "<you> is looking for a mentor!" message to every online veteran who is currently eligible to adopt (enough playtime, room for another mentee). One of them then runs /mentor adopt <you>, you accept, and you are paired. If no eligible veteran is online, you get a nudge to try again later.

The mentor offer expires after 60 seconds, so accept promptly. You can only hold one pending offer at a time, and once you accept you cannot be re-mentored — graduation is a one-way door.

Eligibility

Mentorship is gated by playtime to keep it focused on genuine new-player onboarding. A veteran with 24 hours of playtime can mentor; a rookie with under 5 hours can be mentored.

RuleDetail
Mentor playtimeAt least 24 hours of total playtime (config: mentor-min-playtime-hours).
Mentee playtimeNo more than 5 hours of total playtime (config: mentee-max-playtime-hours). Past this, a rookie is no longer eligible.
Mentee capA mentor can have up to 3 active mentees at once (config: max-mentees).
No self-mentorYou cannot adopt yourself.
One mentor onlyA rookie can only have one mentor at a time, and once graduated can never be mentored again.

The Income Bonus — Both Sides Win

Once a mentorship is active, every time the mentee earns money from mining (or selling, autoselling, or selling from their backpack), both players get a bonuson top of the mentee's income. The bonus is paid in Denarius and credited automatically — there is nothing to claim.

  • Mentee bonus: +10% of the mining income (the mentee earns extra for being mentored).
  • Mentor bonus: +5% of the mentee's mining income (a passive fee paid to the mentor for guiding).

The bonus only fires for mining-related income — block breaks, sales, autosells, backpack sales, and sell-wand sales. Casino wins, contract payouts, and other non-mining income do not count, so you cannot farm the bonus by gambling or trading.

Because the mentor bonus is a percentage of the mentee's earnings, the fastest way for a mentor to profit is to help the mentee graduate quickly — give them pickaxe advice, point them at the best mines, and lend a hand with enchants.

Graduation

A mentorship ends when the mentee has earned $1,000,000 Denarius from mining income during the mentorship. At that point they graduate, both players receive a graduation reward (Denarius and Auctoritas, configurable per role), and the server is broadcast: "<mentee> graduated under <mentor>!"

Track progress any time with /mentor info, which shows your current progress toward the $1M target as both a raw number and a percentage, plus a list of all your active mentees (if you are a mentor) with each one's progress.

After graduation, the mentee is permanently marked as graduated and can never be mentored again — the system is for onboarding, not a recurring income loop. The mentor, however, is free to adopt a new rookie immediately (up to their 3-mentee cap).

Leaving a Mentorship

A mentorship can be ended early by either side. Run /mentor abandon as a mentee to walk away from your mentor, or as a mentor to be reminded of the syntax for dropping a specific mentee. Abandoning does not graduate the mentee — it simply ends the relationship with no graduation payout. Progress is wiped and neither side gets the reward.

This is a safety valve for bad pairings. If your mentor went inactive or your mentee stopped playing, abandon and move on. There is no penalty for abandoning beyond losing the accumulated progress.

Commands

CommandWhat it does
/mentor adopt <player>Offer to mentor an eligible rookie. They must accept with /mentor accept. (aliases: /mentor mentor, /mentor invite)
/mentor requestAs a rookie with no mentor, broadcast a "looking for a mentor" request to every eligible online veteran.
/mentor acceptAccept a pending mentor offer and start the mentorship. (aliases: /mentor join)
/mentor abandonLeave your mentorship (as a mentee) or be reminded how to drop a specific mentee (as a mentor). (aliases: /mentor leave, /mentor quit)
/mentor infoShow your mentor (if any), graduation progress, and all your active mentees. (aliases: /mentor list, /mentor status)

Persistence

Mentorships are fully database-backed. Your active mentorship, your progress toward graduation, and your graduated status all survive logouts, server restarts, and long absences. Progress is flushed to the database every 60 seconds, so even an unexpected disconnect loses at most a minute of tracked earnings.

Tips

  1. Rookies: run /mentor request on day one. The +10% income bonus is the single biggest early-game acceleration available, and it costs nothing.
  2. Veterans: keep a slot open. With a 3-mentee cap, cycling through rookies is a steady passive income stream — every graduate is a payout for you.
  3. Graduate fast. The graduation reward is a lump sum on top of the per-income bonus, so pushing a mentee to $1M quickly maximizes total profit for both sides.
  4. Only mining counts. Casino, contracts, and trades do not contribute to graduation progress — focus the mentee on mining and selling ore.
  5. Stack with boosters. A money booster on the mentee increases their mining income, which increases both the mentee and mentor bonus, accelerating graduation.
  6. Check /mentor info before adopting. It shows your active mentees and their progress, so you do not waste a slot on a rookie who is about to graduate.
  7. Abandon dead pairings. If a mentee stops logging in, abandon them to free the slot for an active rookie — there is no penalty.
