The Two-Stage Reward Structure

Referrals pay out in two distinct moments. Understanding both is the key to maximizing the system:

So a single successful referral — a friend who redeems your code and plays to Rank V — is worth 100,000 Denarius and 10,000 Auctoritas to you, and the same to them. Refer five active friends and you have cleared half a million Denarius from referrals alone.

Getting & Sharing Your Code

Run /ref with no arguments. If you have never fetched your code before, the server generates one for you on the spot and caches it. You will see something like:

Your referral code: ABC123

Share that code with anyone you want to refer. When they run /ref ABC123 on the server, the backend validates the code, marks the referral as pending, and pays out Stage 1 to both of you immediately. The server also tracks your total redemption count so you can see how many friends have used your code.

Your code persists forever — it does not rotate, expire, or change unless you customize it (see below). Put it in your Discord bio, your stream overlay, or your legion's recruitment posts.

Redeeming a Friend's Code

If you are the new player (or if you have never redeemed a code before), running /ref <code> redeems it. On success you get:

• +50,000 Denarius deposited immediately.
• +5,000 Auctoritas deposited immediately.
• A challenge-complete sound and a confirmation message.
• A pending referral record linking you to the code owner.

That pending record is what triggers Stage 2 later. When you reach Rank V for the first time, the rank-up event fires, the referral is marked completed, and both of you receive the second payout. The referred player must hit exactly Rank V — going straight past it does not retroactively pay.

Custom Codes for Patrician+

By default your code is a random alphanumeric string. If you hold the Patrician donor tier or higher, you can replace it with a custom 6-character code of your choice — your username, your legion's tag, or anything memorable.

A custom code is a marketing tool: CORLEO is a lot easier for a streamer's viewers to remember than XQ7K2P. If the code you want is already taken or the format is invalid, the backend rejects it with a clear error message.

The /ref Command Family

All three operations hit the Imperium backend API, so they require a working connection. If the backend is unreachable, you will see a friendly “Referral system unavailable” message — try again in a moment.

The Stage 2 Mechanics in Detail

When a referred player ranks up, the rank-up event checks whether they have a pending referral. The check fires only at exactly Rank V (level 5) — not before, not after. If a pending referral exists:

1. The referral record is updated to completed, with both players marked rewarded.
2. The referred player (online) receives +50,000 Denarius and +5,000 Auctoritas with an in-game congratulations message.
3. The referrer receives the same payout via the offline-safe deposit API — so they get paid even if they are not online. If they are online, they get a notification too.

Because the referral is marked completed at this point, it can only pay out once — there is no farming the same friend twice. But there is also no limit on how many different friends you can refer, so the more you recruit, the more you earn.

Tips for Maximizing Referrals

• Get your code early. Run /ref on day one so it is ready to share the moment you talk to a friend.
• Help your referrals hit Rank V. Stage 2 is the bigger payoff — coach your friends through the early ranks so they actually get there.
• Customize if you can. A Patrician custom code is far easier to remember and type, especially for stream audiences.
• Post your code where it matters. Discord, stream chats, legion recruitment, and gaming forums are all fair game.
• Pitch the mutual benefit. New players are more likely to redeem when they know they get 50K Denarius and 5K Auctoritas out of it too.
• Refer active players. Stage 2 only fires if they reach Rank V, so focus on friends who actually plan to play.
• No cap. Refer 5, 50, or 500 friends — every completed referral pays out.
