Colosseum

Four-mode PvP arena — duels, legion fights, admin events, and bracket tournaments — with pari-mutuel betting.

The Colosseum is Imperium's arena — a four-mode PvP spectacle with real currency stakes, pari-mutuel betting, and single-elimination bracket tournaments. Challenge a rival to a duel, bet Auctoritas or Civitas on the outcome, or sign up for a server-wide tournament and fight for the title of champion. One match runs in the arena at a time, so every fight is a server-wide event.

The Four Match Modes

Every Colosseum match uses the same arena, gladiator kit, and stakes engine — what changes is how the fight is assembled and how steep the stakes are.

ModeHow it works
DuelOne-on-one. Challenge a player with /colosseum duel; they /colosseum accept. Stakes are config-driven (small % of non-premium currency).
LegionTeam-vs-team legion fights, run by staff for organized events.
EventAdmin-assembled pit fight. Stakes are 100% of ALL non-premium currency on death — full transfer to the killer. Requires every participant to confirm.
BracketSingle-elimination tournament. 8/16/32/64 slots, teams of 1-4. Sign up, get seeded, fight through rounds to crown a champion.

AUREUS is never touched by the Colosseum. Stakes and betting only affect Denarius, Auctoritas, and Civitas — and betting is restricted to Auctoritas and Civitas only. The premium currency is structurally excluded so the arena can never drain real-money value.

Duels — The Quick Fight

The most common Colosseum match. Challenge any online player, fight in the arena, and the winner takes a configured % of the loser's non-premium currency. Both fighters are issued the gladiator kit for a fair, identical loadout.

  1. /colosseum duel <player> — sends a challenge. (5-second cooldown.)
  2. The target gets a prompt and runs /colosseum accept.
  3. Both fighters are teleported to opposite spawn points and issued the gladiator kit.
  4. Fight to the death. The last fighter standing wins; stakes are applied automatically.
  5. Both fighters are teleported back to the lobby and restored to survival mode.

Duels have a hard timeout (configurable, default 5 minutes). If a stalled or AFK match runs over, it is force-ended so the arena cannot soft-lock.

Pari-Mutuel Betting

While a match is live, anyone who is not a participant can bet on the outcome. The system is pari-mutuel: all bets go into a shared pool, the house takes a small cut (destroyed as a currency sink), and the remainder is split among the winning side's bettors in proportion to their stake.

RuleDetail
Accepted currenciesOnly AUCTORITAS and CIVITAS — never Denarius (primary money) and never AUREUS (premium).
House cutA small % of every betting pool is destroyed (a pure currency sink). The remainder is split among the winning side.
PayoutPari-mutuel: your share of the winning pot is proportional to your share of the winning side's total wagered.
No self-bettingYou cannot bet on a match you are fighting in.
EscrowYour wager is escrowed (removed) the moment you place it. If the match ends mid-bet, you are refunded.

Example: Side A has 1,000 Auctoritas wagered and Side B has 3,000. Side A wins. After the house cut, the entire pot (4,000 minus house) is split among Side A's bettors proportional to their stakes — so a small bet on the underdog can pay out huge.

Bracket Tournaments

A bracket is a single-elimination tournament run by staff. Sizes are 8, 16, 32, or 64 slots, with teams of 1 to 4 players. Sign up when one is open, get randomly seeded into the bracket, and fight through the rounds until one team is crowned champion.

  1. Staff runs /colosseumadmin bracket start <size> <teamsize> to open signup.
  2. Players run /colosseum bracket join to enter until the bracket fills (or staff locks it).
  3. The bracket seeds and Round 1 begins automatically. Each match is a real arena fight.
  4. Winners advance; losers are eliminated. Byes auto-advance when paired with an empty slot.
  5. The final surviving team is broadcast as the Colosseum Champion.

Brackets are ephemeral single-night events — they are not persisted. When the tournament ends or is cancelled, the bracket state is wiped. Be there on the night or miss it.

Admin Events

Staff can assemble a one-off pit fight between two teams with the highest possible stakes: 100% of ALL non-premium currency transfers to the killer on death. Because the stakes are brutal, every participant must explicitly confirm before the match starts.

  • Staff runs /colosseumadmin event start <p1> <p2> ... — the roster is split into two sides.
  • Every named player gets a warning showing the exact currency at risk.
  • Participants run /colosseumadmin event confirm to accept (60-second window).
  • Once all confirm, the match starts in EVENT mode with full-transfer stakes.

Commands

/colosseumView current match status (alias /colosseum info).
/colosseum duel <player>Challenge a player to a 1v1 duel. They must accept.
/colosseum acceptAccept a pending duel challenge sent to you.
/colosseum bet <A|B> <AUCTORITAS|CIVITAS> <amount>Place a pari-mutuel wager on Side A or Side B. Escrows the funds; pays out proportionally if your side wins.

/colosseum bracket infoView the current bracket — size, signups, round, lock status.
/colosseum spectateTeleport into the spectator zone to watch the active match (spectator mode).
/colosseum leaveLeave the arena. For participants, this counts as a loss; for spectators, just returns you to the lobby.

Spectating

While a match is live, run /colosseum spectate to teleport into the configured spectator zone in spectator game mode. You can watch the fight safely and place bets while you watch. Run /colosseum leave to return to the lobby and restore your survival mode.

Related — The Boss Arena

The Colosseum is PvP. For PvE, try the Boss Arena — a wave-based survival challenge you join with /bossarena join and start with /bossarena start. Survive as many waves as you can; your best wave and total waves are tracked on the leaderboard (/bossarena top). It is the PvE counterpart to the Colosseum's PvP spectacle.

Tips

  1. One match at a time. If the arena is busy, your duel challenge will be rejected — wait for the current fight to resolve.
  2. The gladiator kit is identical. Both sides get the same loadout, so duels are pure skill (plus any pickaxe enchants/skills you carry in).
  3. Bet the underdog. Pari-mutuel means a small bet on a less-favored side pays out disproportionately if they win.
  4. Leaving a match counts as a loss. Disconnecting or running /colosseum leave mid-fight eliminates you and applies stakes.
  5. Anti-farm cooldowns. The same two players cannot farm each other for stake transfers repeatedly — there is a 60-second kill-pair cooldown.
  6. EVENT stakes are brutal. Never confirm an admin event you are not willing to lose 100% of your non-premium currency on.
  7. Stack a PvP loadout. Virtus skill perks, a PvP pet (Imperial Lion, Cerberus Pup), and a Colosseum Surge event gemma all supercharge arena performance.
