Endings & the Chronicle
Five finales shaped by your choices and faction loyalties — and the Chronicle that remembers every one across Ascensions.
The saga doesn’t end one way — it ends your way. When you complete the fifty-chapter story, the game checks a short list of finales in order and grants the first one your choices qualify for. Two follow from single story choices, two from the faction reputations you built along the road, one from sheer progress, and the last is the honest life everyone else gets.
| Ending | How it unlocks |
|---|---|
| THE GOD’S EQUAL | Reach Chapter 48+ before the saga completes — you climbed past everything Rome could measure. |
| THE REPUBLIC RESTORED | Side with the Senate (the chose_senate_side flag) or carry 3,000+ reputation with SPQR. |
| THE MERCHANT PRINCE | Carry 2,500+ reputation with the Ordo Mercatorum — the merchant faction that owns Rome’s roads and grain. |
| THE TYRANT’S ROME | Choose order over mercy (the chose_order_over_mercy flag) or carry 2,000+ reputation with the Cultus Dis Pater. |
| THE QUIET CITIZEN | The fallback finale — finish the saga without meeting any of the above. No statue, no scandal. |
The epilogues
THE GOD’S EQUAL — The temple keeps a lamp lit for you now — not because you asked, but because nobody was brave enough to say no.
THE REPUBLIC RESTORED — They will argue about you in the Curia for a hundred years. That was always the plan.
THE MERCHANT PRINCE — Every dock tally in the empire now passes through a ledger with your mark on it.
THE TYRANT’S ROME — The city is quiet. Quiet the way a held breath is quiet.
THE QUIET CITIZEN — No statue, no scandal — just a name in the ledger that always balanced.
Endings are decided at the moment the saga completes — nothing is locked in early. Your faction reputation and choice flags keep evolving right up to the final chapter, so a last-minute betrayal (or redemption) can still change your finale.
Ascension: replay the saga your way
Ascending (prestiging at Rank C) resets everything — including the story. The city forgets; you don’t. Walk a different road through the fifty chapters: side with the Senate this era and the Cult the next, court the merchant houses instead of the temples, chase the God’s Equal once you’ve seen what the Quiet Citizen’s life looks like. New events surface on later ascensions, and every ending you collect is remembered.
The Chronicle
Your personal record of the road — readable any time, identical on Java and Bedrock.
| Where | What it shows |
|---|---|
| /story chronicle | Reads your chronicle into chat: current chapter and era, your ending once the saga is complete, your latest choices, and your standing with the powers of the city. |
| The Archivista | The archive NPC’s CHRONICLE terminal action opens the same record — no command needed. |
| Across Ascensions | The ending flag (saga_ending_<id>) is permanent. Every ending you have ever earned stays in the Chronicle, so replays build a collection rather than overwriting it. |
